Online Human Resources/Services Degrees

Online Human Resources/Services Programs:

The completion of an online degree in human resources or human services increases an individual's marketability and income potential. Achieving a master's degree in human resources management is highly recommended for those seeking general and top management positions.

Human Resources/Services

Human resources and human services professionals manage diverse duties and multiple levels of responsibility; therefore the edu cational requirements in these fields vary. Individuals generally choose from a number of career focus areas and may, as a result, select from a variety of classes that reflect their particular choice. Although specialization does not usually occur until the master's level, determining a specialty in advance allows students the opportunity to make the best selections when it comes to their courses of study. It also helps when choosing career-related classes while enrolled in junior college.

Human resources and human services tasks on the job may include processing employee benefits; recruiting, interviewing, and hiring new personnel; working with top executives on strategic planning; and implementing policies that affect the workforce.

Most human resources and human services degrees may be obtained entirely online within 2 years or less. Doctorate degrees generally involve short residency requirements and a longer time to graduation. Employers usually expect entry-level20human resources and human services professionals to hold an undergraduate degree.

An interdisciplinary background is especially suitable for these fields. A curriculum that combines business and social sciences is best. Relevant coursework might include management principles, organizational structure, industrial psychology, public administration, computers and information systems, compensation, recruitment, and training and development. Additional required or elective courses could include behavioral sciences, general psychology, sociology, political science, economics and statistics. Some jobs require a technical or specialized background in engineering, science, finance, labor law, collective bargaining and/or labor economics; so it is important to explore these options as well.
